The Gate Valve is a special device that automatically reduces the working pressure of the pipeline. It can reduce the higher water pressure of the pipeline before the valve to the required level of the pipeline after the valve. Universal Valve are widely used in high-rise buildings, areas with excessively high water pressure in urban water supply networks, mines and other occasions to ensure that each water point in the water supply system obtains appropriate service water pressure and flow.

Since the water leakage rate and waste degree are almost proportional to the water pressure of the water supply system, the Gate Valve has the function of improving the operating conditions of the system and potentially saving water. According to statistics, its water saving effect is about 30%.
There are many types of Universal Valve. The most common ones in the past are diaphragm type, internal spring piston type, etc. The basic working principle of the Gate Valve is to reduce the water pressure by the local resistance of the flow channel in the valve to the water flow. The range of water pressure drop is automatically adjusted by the water pressure difference between the inlet and outlet on both sides of the diaphragm or piston connecting the valve disc.
In recent years, some new Universal Valve have appeared, such as the fixed ratio Gate Valve. The fixed ratio pressure reduction principle is to use the water pressure ratio control of the floating piston in the valve body. The pressure reduction ratio at the inlet and outlet ends is inversely proportional to the piston area ratio on the inlet and outlet sides. This type of Gate Valve works smoothly without vibration.
There is no spring in the valve body, so there is no worry about spring corrosion and metal fatigue failure; the sealing performance is good and there is no leakage, so it reduces both dynamic pressure (when water flows) and static pressure (when the flow rate is 0); especially, it does not affect the water flow rate while reducing the pressure.
Universal Valve usually have a variety of specifications such as DN15~DN400. The working pressures before and after the valve are respectively <1MPa and 0.1~0.5MPa, and the pressure adjustment range error is ±5%~10%.
It should be noted that although there is a large head loss when water flows through the Gate Valve, it is still energy-saving overall because it reduces water waste, makes the system flow distribution reasonable, and improves the system layout and working conditions.
